CRUISE IN RAJA AMPAT, UP TO THE STUNNING WAYAG ISLANDS

INFORMATIONS

*The minimum duration for a cruise in Raja Ampat is 4 nights.

This cruise can be adapted for scuba divers, with a slightly different itinerary from Misool in the south of the archipelago to Wayag in the north. 

Day 1: Sorong Airport - Raja Ampat

Snorkeling excursions in Dampier Strait

You arrive at Sorong Airport in West Papua on the island of New Guinea. You are picked up by your driver who takes you to the town's harbor where your cruising boat is waiting for you. You board for an unforgettable 8 days/ 7 nights cruise in Central and North Raja Ampat.

The traditional Phinisi sailing boat offers good comfort with its air-conditioned cabins with private bathrooms. The outdoor deck is perfect for relaxing between excursions and for enjoying sunset at the end of the day. 

Your first stop is Friwen island in Dampier Strait. Here you enjoy your first snorkeling exploration. It is a great site with colorful soft coral and many, many fish! Anchorage for the night near the island. After dinner, do not miss the chance to go for a night snorkeling excursion in the bay !

Day 2: Raja Ampat

The Passage

First morning in paradise. Quite early, the veil is raised in the direction of the "passage". This narrow sea passage between Gam and Waigeo Islands is punctuated on each side by high limestone cliffs. It is a unique place in Raja Ampat. The snorkeling is incredible: colorful soft corals, giant trevally, bump-head parrotfish, turtles, sharks, manta rays and even eagle rays!

In the evening, the captain moors in a place he wishes to keep secret. You enjoy a beautiful sunset from the boat.

Day 3: Raja Ampat

Secret island and Tanjung Putus

First snorkeling session this morning around the bay where you spent the night. Its shallow waters are home to huge coral formations and many colorful fish! Then we head for Tanjung Putus, also called Broken Cape. You dive with schools of barracudas, giant trevally, white and black tip sharks.

Day 4: Raja Ampat

Piaynemo stunning panorama & Rufus island snorkeling excursion

This morning you sail towards Piaynemo. It is very likely that you are escorted by a pod of dolphins in this part of the archipelago. On the way you discover the island of Rufus. In the shape of a circle, it shelters a salt lake communicating with the sea through underwater caves. The snorkeling is amazing! In the afternoon, you arrive at Piaynemo also called "the small Wayag". You climb the hill that leads to the breathtaking view of a star-shaped lagoon and its hundreds of limestone rocks.

Day 5: Raja Ampat

Aljui Bay, shelter of sea crocodiles

You arrive in Aljui Bay, north of Waigeo. The bay is very wild and has lush vegetation. Swim in its shallow waters, rich in coloured hard coral. Many fish and tiny creatures live in this ecosystem. In the afternoon, you continue your exploration of Aljui Bay and discover a surprising setting for Raja Ampat, worthy of Jurassic Park. No swimming here as the sea crocodile lives here!

Days 6 & 7: Raja Ampat

Lost in the stunning Wayag archipelago

Today you cross the equator to the islands of Wayag. During the next 2 days you discover this uninhabited wilderness paradise, rarely reached by travelers. Wayag is known for its many karst islands floating in breathtaking turquoise water. You hike through the Wayag archipelago and climb some of its peaks for a view from the sky. Lose yourself in its lagoons by canoe or stand-up paddle. You are literally alone in the world.  In the evening of this second day at the edge of the world, a delicious barbecue of fresh fish is prepared by the crew on a deserted beach

Day 8: Raja Ampat

Snorkeling in Wofoh island

You discover the island of Wofoh, another small underwater paradise. It offers a superb drop off with soft coral but also with many pelagic fish. In the southern part of the island, a beautiful white sand beach leads to a very nice shallow reef with superb visibility. You could stay there for hours.

Day 9: Raja Ampat

Swim with Mantas and visit of Arborek village

You get up early to be in Manta Sandy early! This morning you have an appointment with majestic giants. You swim with dozens of manta rays, a very impressive and unforgettable experience. Later, you drop anchor in front of the village of Arborek. You visit the village and have the chance to meet the inhabitants.

Day 10: Raja Ampat

Birds of paradise tour and snorkeling in Cape Kri

This day belongs to the early birds! Early wake up (optional) at 4:30 am for a bird of paradise observation tour in their natural habitat. Sunrise is the best time to see them singing and dancing, before they head into the forest in search of food. At the top of the trees, you can usually see several males doing their mating parade. 

In the afternoon, you dive at Cape Kri. This site is famous for the density of underwater species that live there. You enjoy your last sunset and your last dinner on board.

Day 11: Raja Ampat

Discovery of Sawandarek village

Today you visit the charming village of Sawandarek. Long ago, its inhabitants decided to stop fishing to protect the underwater life of their village. The outcome is spectacular, making Sawandarek one of the best snorkeling sites in Raja Ampat. You snorkel with barracuda, giant groupers, emperors, turtles, sharks, batfish, and more. Last night on board.

Day 12: Raja Ampat - Sorong airport

End of the cruise, back to the real world

After a last delicious breakfast, you head back to Sorong. Your cruise in Raja Ampat comes to an end. You say goodbye to the crew who helped make this cruise an unforgettable experience.  In Sorong, your driver is here to welcome you and drive you to Sorong airport for your onward flight. End of the journey in Raja Ampat.
